Cobb’s chief judge Kenneth Nix resigns abruptly
Cobb Superior Court Judge Kenneth O. Nix resigned abruptly today, citing a desire for an “orderly transition” into offices in the county’s new Court building.
In a letter to Gov. Sonny Perdue, Nix said he had been considering retirement when his current term as the court’s chief judge expires Dec. 31. He said he would move his retirement date up to Oct. 4, his 71st birthday, to make the court’s move into new offices easier.
Perdue responded with a two-sentence letter accepting the resignation without additional comment.
District Attorney Patrick Head said tonight he did not know the circumstances of Nix’s resignation and did not know for certain that it had been submitted. He declined to say whether investigators with the state Judicial Qualifications Commission had contacted him in recent weeks.
“If they had, then I wouldn’t be able to tell you anything about that because that would violate the Supreme Court’s rules,” Head said.
